What Is the Highlighter Method? Watch Video Below...

The highlighter method is a simple, visual way to budget that helps you see exactly where your money is going—without feeling overwhelmed or restricted. Instead of complicated spreadsheets or apps, this method uses color-coding to track your expenses so you can quickly understand your spending habits at a glance.

With the highlighter method, you are tracking your expenses, and then you are assigning a different color to each category—things like bills, groceries, gas, savings, sinking funds, and fun spending. As you spend money, you go back and highlight each expense using its assigned color. Once you are done, you total each category up and you'll see how much you've actually spent. It's a great exercise for you to do.

👉 Be sure to watch the video below where I walk you through exactly how I use the highlighter method in my own budget and share tips to help you set it up in a way that works for you.
